Polygamist sect member gets 17 years in assault

Abram Harker Jeffs Abram Harker Jeffs was found guilty Tuesday of assaulting a girl with whom he was in an FLDS "spiritual" or "celestial" marriage on May 12, 2006, when Jeffs was 34 and already legally married and when the girl was 15.

He was sentenced to 17 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.



More 'hate' on speakers' list for Islamic conference

Islam, religion of the sword A massive upcoming Islamic conference in Toronto, which was to be headlined by an Indian televangelist until he was recently banned from Canada for his inflammatory statements, features a list of speakers whose past comments against Jews, homosexuals and the West have raised red flags in other countries.

But a group of Saudi women has taken the controversial decree a step further in a new campaign to gain the right to drive in the ultra-conservative kingdom, media reports say.
