After 35 years of tracking cults and hate groups, counseling victims of mind control, and monitoring end-of-the-world prophecies on the Internet, cult expert Hal Mansfield is moving on, the Denver Post reports.
Mansfield is handing off control of the nonprofit he started in 1981 to Lisa Monroney, herself a cult survivor. Two brothers of jailed polygamous church leader Warren Jeffs are being sought by Arizona police after allegedly evicting a leadership rival's wife who refused to renounce her husband, authorities confirmed Thursday. Ruth Steed, 26, is married to William E. Jessop, who last month sought to take legal control of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from Warren Jeffs. Court records show Steed sought the court protection after her loyalties to the church were challenged and she refused to leave her husband. Mary Stinemetz, 64, could get a liver transplant, one that would be paid for by Medicaid, at the University of Kansas Hospital.
But she also would have to compromise her Jehovah's Witness principles, because she would receive a blood transfusion, something she believes violates God's law. More Recent Articles |
