French judges said they did not order the church offices closed because they did not want to drive Scientologists underground, where they could not be monitored.

Terrorist plot against employees of Mohammad cartoons newspaper

Two Chicago men have been charged in what officials said was a plot to attack employees of a Danish newspaper that in 2005 published cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad that offended many Muslims, according to criminal complaints unsealed Tuesday in federal court in Chicago.

One of the men had initially targeted a building occupied by the Danish newspaper, Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten in Copenhagen.

Judge refuses to bar mention of polygamy in cult trial; Jury selection continues

Attorneys moved closer to seating a jury in the first criminal case resulting from the state's 2008 raid on a polygamist sect's ranch after narrowing a jury pool to 34 on Tuesday.

Raymond Jessop is the first of 12 FLDS men to be tried on a variety of sexual assault and bigamy charges as a result of the April, 2008 raid on the cult's Yearning for Zion Ranch.

Police in Uganda are investigating a cult that has been operating in the Hoima District, the country's Daily Monitor says.

New Mexico Supreme Court denies cult leader Wayne Bent's bond petition

New Mexico's highest court has denied sect leader Wayne Bent's petition to be released on bond from prison while he appeals his convictions for sexual misconduct with teenage female followers, AP reports.

The Supreme Court denied the petition without explanation, as had the Court of Appeals.

AP also says Bent is being force-fed. A judge cleared the way for that after the cult leader tried to starve himself by means of an extended fast in protest of his imprisonment.

Two Cuban Pastors Released, But Crackdown Continues, Christians Say

Two Baptist leaders who were detained in eastern Cuba while distributing humanitarian aid from American Christians were free Tuesday, October 27, after two weeks imprisonment Christians said.

Last week the charges of "illicit financial activity" were suddenly dropped and they were released, according to Cuban church leaders.

French court convicts Church of Scientology of fraud

A French court on Tuesday convicted the Church of Scientology and six of its members of organized fraud, but stopped short of banning the church.

As part of the penalties, the church was ordered to publish the results of the verdict in several national and international magazines to warn people, the judge said, about what Scientology offers and what was discovered at trial.

More Bible verses than ever at football games

A school district in Georgia, USA, recently decided that cheerleaders could not longer display banners with Bible verses at school football games -- one of those 'Church and State' issues.

Result? More bible banners than ever, now displayed by fans in the stands instead of cheerleaders on the field.

Trial for three 1 Mind Ministries cult members postponed

The trial of three members of 1 Mind Ministries, a religious cult, has been postponed until Jan. 27.

A fourth cult member will have his case heard on Friday -- a possible sign that he intends to plead guilty, AP reports.

The cult members have been accused of starving a toddler to death because he would not say 'amen' at meal times.
